To the editor:

I read with great interest and incredulity the recent Bulletin report that the City Council has unanimously approved the new fire-training facility in the very location that drew fierce local opposition.

First of all, how is it possible that the price of the facility is now magically one-tenth of the previous estimate?

This sounds like a backdoor trick to break the real cost into small enough pieces to avoid another vote by the citizens, which would once again have been a resounding NO!

Shame on the council for endorsing this scam after receiving nothing but negative feedback from the community. Have you all forgotten who you work for?!

And if the mayor pro tem’s “worst fear of the city burning down” ever does come to pass, it will be because the fire trucks cannot reach the fire thanks to the congested, inadequately maintained city streets coupled with half-baked and poorly executed construction projects — not because we don’t have a fire-training tower in the middle of our water treatment complex!

I suspect most residents won’t dispute the need to adequately train our fire department, but let’s be honest about the cost of the facility and work together to find a suitable location.
