Can you imagine a world where local news doesn’t exist? There would be coverage of neighborhood issues, leadership decisions, local policy changes or community events.

That means no one would be asking the questions on your mind or advocating to keep you informed. What’s happening with City Council or the school district? No arts coverage or sports news. No police beat, comics or news about your neighborhoods.

We’ve all recently experienced just this scenario with the 30-year-old Colorado Springs Independent going dark.

We’re trying to fill the gap by expanding our coverage and distribution area to downtown Colorado Springs. We’re collaborating with local journalists to keep you better informed about even more of this region.

You’ll see Nick Raven covering the arts and culture in this week’s issue and beyond. We’re hoping to have coverage of local dining from Matthew Schniper in the upcoming months.

We’re also engaging with the Colorado Sun and other publications to share their content.

We’re working on strengthening our website and creating email newsletters and updates for you, and forging stronger ties with the communities we serve.

As 2024 opens on what is sure to be another eventful year, how much can we work together? We need your support to sustain local journalism. Some days it’s an uphill battle that often feels insurmountable.

If you aren’t a current subscriber or supporter, today is your day. Help keep local news alive by subscribing and adding additional support if you can.

If you are a subscriber, spread the word — we need more subscribers. Perhaps you can buy a gift subscription for a friend or family member.

A reader recently contacted me and said, “Hey, I can pick up the paper for free, why should I subscribe?” Yes, we are out there in more than 140 locations, from downtown Colorado Springs up to Woodland Park and we want to offer sustainable access!

It’s support from readers and advertisers that make this all possible. If you look at the top of our front page, you will see a $2 price; that’s what we would love to receive.

That itself is a value. You can subscribe and have the PPB delivered to your home for only $65 a year. What a bargain!

For the PPB to keep growing, we have to grow our readership first.

Our primary hope for the new year is for local journalism to grow. Where local news thrives, communities thrive. Neighbors are informed and engaged.

Your support makes it possible for us to research, interview and report — and in turn, we’ll empower you with the information you need to make decisions.

The Bulletin’s mission is to offer a sustainable, community-powered, local news source on issues that impact Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City and Lower Ute Pass … and now, downtown Colorado Springs.

This is a partnership, and we need your help. We will continue to develop this newspaper into a sustainable business model that you, your children and generations to come can depend on as a trusted news source.

We will be here in print every week, digitally and through our social media channels.

When you support us today, you’re supporting local journalism that works for you.

And you’re powering us to plan for this new year: new projects, new reporting initiatives, new community events and so much more.

Support Local Journalism!

We’re a community-powered nonprofit organization and we can’t fulfill our mission without you. We need your voices, viewpoints, and financial support.
