Dear readers —

There are just days left to donate through the Give! campaign. You can do that now at givepikespeak.org/nonprofit/pikes-peak-bulletin.

It might be a playful time of year for some, but we’re serious about making sure we can continue to serve you in 2024.

A frosted and bedazzled herd of wild gingerbread reindeer leaping across U.S. Highway 24 couldn’t drag us away from the work of making sure your Pikes Peak Bulletin team is ready for another year of service.

Neither would any other sugar-laden shenanigans distract us from the sad reality that community news sources are folding across the country because the costs of printing, content creation and distribution continue to rise.

In other words, a free press isn’t free. Cookies don’t bake themselves.

We’re not going to ask you to imagine what it would look like if the Pikes Peak Bulletin stopped covering local news, because that’s already happened this year.

Then, our community stepped up to bring the Bulletin back as a fully community-powered, nonprofit media source for Manitou Springs, Old Colorado City and Ute Pass.

A free press isn’t free.

Because of readers like you, our schools regained longtime connections with their wider community supporters and local alumni who have relied on the Bulletin for decades.

Because of readers like you, our local businesses and organizations have been able to share their hardships and successes.

The support of readers like you has meant our local governments could publish legal notices and keep residents more easily informed about big changes in our small part of the world.

All of this meant you, our readers, could turn to one source for the community updates you find valuable instead of scrolling through countless updates and ads that don’t focus on the news or services you want right now.

We humbly ask for your support as we bake up a serving of local news you can use every week.

One more time, with grateful hearts, we’re asking you to please keep us working for you with a donation before Jan. 1 at givepikespeak.org/nonprofit/pikes-peak-bulletin.
