When I was young, my mother had me read the newspaper headlines for her. As I got older, she’d pick a story for me to read out loud. Later, I would read the front page and give her a report. I guess this is when I fell in love with newspapers!
I received a degree in journalism and worked in TV news for a while. Although I didn’t stay in that business for long, I never lost my fondness for newspapers.
I was so happy to find the Bulletin when I moved to Manitou! I really enjoyed reading it each week. Last spring, when there was a chance that we would lose our local paper, I was thankful that a group of committed community members stepped up to make sure that didn’t happen.
Our publisher, board members, staff and volunteers work tirelessly to bring you a relevant, interesting and entertaining paper each week.
Some people wish “Where Is It?” would return. Some people want more sports, others want less. Some would like to see more investigative reporting.
Although we listen to all the varying opinions, the one thing we hear over and over from everyone is, “We are so glad there is still a local paper!”
At the Manitou Springs Women’s Club meeting last week, we gathered boxes of food to donate to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. (Thanks, PPB, for putting a notice about this in the paper.)
I saw my 92-year-old friend, Ann, at First Friday Artwalk last week (thanks. PPB. for the event calendar) and she was telling me how much she loves the Bulletin; she even has a subscription!
This got me thinking about “the gift that keeps on giving.” Now is a great time to donate to the Give! campaign, as there are matching funds available. Get a subscription for your kids at college and send the paper to neighbors who have moved away, but still love our town.
