I hope that, as you read this, you’re still feeling grateful for being with loved ones on Thanksgiving. If you live far away from family, I hope you’ve been able to create a family with your friends. Sometimes, that’s the best kind of family!

This has been a wild rollercoaster ride of a year, but through it all, I remain incredibly grateful for this community and the people who make it possible to put out a Bulletin every week.

That starts with Lyn Ettinger-Harwell, our publisher and board president, who thinks about and works for the Bulletin nearly 24/7. He’s a fantastic networker and cheerleader who knows how to reach out to the right people and get them excited about local journalism.

Lyn is why we have our amazing board of directors, who joined this effort when it was just a twinkle in our eyes. Vice President Annie Schmitt, Treasurer Gaye Bosley-Mitchell and Secretary Laura Ettinger-Harwell give up a huge amount of their time, love and energy for this cause. An all-star team of board members are right there with them.

Karen Hazlehurst, our director of advertising, and Charles Ettinger, our graphic designer, regularly go above and beyond the call of duty to help the Bulletin succeed.

We have an outstanding team of veteran writers and photographers, and people who show amazing talent as they dip their toes into this profession. And where would we be without the delivery people who get the Bulletin where it’s needed? They’re all listed on this page.

So many more people have expressed gratitude and encouragement ever since we started this journey in late March. Thank you for believing in what we’re doing. It means the world to us.

We couldn’t do this without our advertisers and subscribers; every cent you’ve spent has gone to good use. We’re grateful for all the small-business owners who know that the Bulletin is a great way to get your message to the public and help your community thrive.

It means the world to us.

Nov. 25 is Small Business Saturday, so please take your holiday shopping list to local businesses. It’s a win-win: You get the satisfaction of supporting your community and ensuring that your loved ones receive unique gifts made with love.

And speaking of love: When you love your community, it’s vitally important to know what’s going on and what could happen next. As a longtime journalist, I make every effort to ensure that what appears in the Bulletin is the truth. You don’t get a guarantee like that on social media!

Years ago, I read a quote that has stuck with me: “There is no exercise better for the heart than reaching down and lifting people up.” John Holmes, a poet, author and educator, was right about that.

Helping others is the best thing we can do — for humanity, the planet, the community and ourselves
