Farmers markets foster better health for people and the environment.

Palmer Land Conservancy, a regional land conservation champion, announced the launch of its Local Food Guide, a comprehensive regional guide to local food producers throughout southern Colorado.

From Salida to Rocky Ford, the guide is a one-stop shop to discover farmers, ranchers and farmers markets where community members can shop directly for favorite in-season produce and products. It also includes recipes, overview of the history of agriculture in our region, self-guided bike tour and producer profiles.

Best of all — it’s free.

The pandemic, along with other global tragedies, have made it abundantly clear that now more than ever we need a strong and secure local food system. Empty shelves, supply chain disruptions, and food and baby formula shortages are the new normal.

The Local Food Guide is a critical piece of the food-security puzzle helping people connect to their local food resources and strengthening and fortifying relationships between community members and the region’s agricultural producers.

Buying local and direct strengthens individual and family health, and the local economy, community and connections.

Distribution locations, which include the OCC farmers market, can be found at palmerland.org, along with a downloadable copy.
