To further promote tree planting in Manitou Springs, the city will host its second wood auction; this time, it will offer approximately 40 planks of Siberian elm.

The silent auction will take place 3-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in City Hall, 606 Manitou Ave.

All proceeds will be split 50/50 for gardening and tree planting through the city’s Parks and Recreation Department.

The wood being auctioned off originates from the 12 trees that were removed for the infrastructure improvement project along Beckers Lane.

“Although the removal of trees is our last resort, it is great to see these Siberian elm trees become useful for planting more trees and gardens within Manitou Springs,” said Mayor John Graham.

The Colorado Springs Sawmill at Penrose milled and kiln-dried the wood, and the Manitou Springs Urban Renewal Authority paid for the work.

The planks are approximately 2 inches thick and vary in sizes and shapes, but are 4 feet to 8 feet long.
