Manitou Springs Volunteer Fire Department
If you’re interested in meeting your neighbors on their most difficult days while learning the skills and confidence to respond to an emergency, you should consider joining your local fire department. Since 1879, the MSVFD has served the city, operating by the motto “neighbors serving neighbors.” MSVFD provides structural and wildland firefighting, emergency medical, high- and low-angle rescue, trail rescues, fire prevention services and mutual aid to surrounding communities. Commonwheel Artist Labor Day Art Festival
Volunteers are needed to help artists set up and take down their booths and to help throughout the festival in its waste-wise efforts. Trails and Open Space Coalition
After a two-year respite, TOSC will bring back the Starlight Spectacular, its summer fundraising event, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 13. Dedicated volunteers are needed for the event committee, which will collaborate with TOSC staff to oversee event plans and execution. Pikes Peak Ascent and Marathon

Rocky Mountain Field Institute
RMFI staffers and volunteers are working on a new Devil’s Playground route to the Pikes Peak summit. Due to the strenuous work and high altitude, workdays are open to people 18 and older, or 16 and older when accompanied by a parent or guardian. 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. The Historic Preservation Commission needs two regular members and two alternates; the Housing Advisory Board needs three regular members and two alternates; the Park and Recreation Advisory Board needs one alternate; the Planning Commission needs one alternate; and the Manitou Arts, Culture, and Heritage board needs one alternate. Red Rock Canyon
The Friends of Red Rock Canyon advocacy group is seeking volunteer experts to present RRC-related topics during Talk and Walk programs. Heritage Center
The Manitou Springs Heritage Center needs volunteers to greet visitors at the front desk and assist working in the collections of historic photos and artifacts; training is provided. The museum has other volunteer opportunities that don’t require being on-site or scheduling regular hours, such as helping with the website, producing videos and creating audio tours.
