The Manitou Springs Heritage Center Museum, collaborating with the Rockey Art Museum, proudly
hosts this exhibit. Learn more about Manitou’s legendary artist, writer and illustrator Charles H. Rockey
through his paintings, drawings and etchings of town views, significant historical buildings, parks, bridges

First Friday Featured Exhibit “Manitou Bottles and Bottling Plants”
In celebration of Manitou Springs’ Waterfest, sponsored by the Manitou Springs Heritage Center Museum
and the Mineral Springs Foundation. Learn about the development of the town’s mineral water industry,
which boasted two competing bottling plants in its heyday. Find out the mystery of the town’s
“effervescent and healthful mineral spring waters” and see the world-famous Ute Chief Gusher Bottle and
the colorful stories and artifacts that helped put Manitou Springs on the world map. The exhibit will run

• 10 a.m. “The Mineral Springs and Geology of Manitou”
Doug Edmundson, Mineral Springs Foundation president, will speak about efforts to preserve, protect and
promote the mineral springs and the special geology that formed the springs. Pre-registration is required

• 11 a.m. “The Story of Jacob Schueler and the Ute Chief Mineral Water Co.”
Author and historian Janet Jewell’s presentation is based on her book, “Returned From Oblivion: The
Story of Jacob Schueler.” Learn about this amazing entrepreneur, showman and co-founder of the Coors

• Noon-5 p.m. Waterfest and Mineral Springs Tours
Join in the family fun of Waterfest with food, music, water games and presentations about the springs and
the Adopt-a-Spring program at Mansions Park, 198 Lovers Lane. Starting at 2 p.m., 45-minute walking
tours, limited to 20 people each, leave every half hour from the 7 Minute Spring Pavilion, 422
Washington Ave. (corner of El Paso Boulevard and Washington Avenue). Tickets are required for
Waterfest. Walking tours are $25 each. Participants receive a mineral water mixology book and a

7 p.m.-12:30 a.m. Starlight Spectacular
Runners, walkers and cyclists (including e-bikes) participate in this unique nighttime experience in
Garden of the Gods. Runners/walkers will follow a 5k route on a closed course. Bikes will take a 7-mile
ride on an open course that includes the Garden of the Gods and its nearby historic neighborhood.
Participants put on their favorite glow-in-the-dark gear, light up their strollers and bikes, and
run/walk/ride into the beautiful Colorado night. This year’s theme is Space Fantasy. Activities include
Best Glow contests, Best Light display, “rest stops,” pancakes and entertainment including live music.

10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Art Camp for Grown-Ups
Offered by the Pikes Peak Artist Collective. Activities feature throwing on the pottery wheel, painting

This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. Plan to spend the day admiring (and purchasing)

It’s time to get your beer on! The Manitou Springs Heritage Center and Museum invites you to the eighth
annual festival for an afternoon of unlimited craft beer tastings from more than 20 breweries, local food
vendors and live music. Please, no kids (either two- or four-legged!) — must be 21 or older to gain
admittance. VIP tickets include noon entry and a Heritage Brew Fest steel pint. Only 250 VIP tickets are
