Looking for something special to gift this holiday season? Well, you don’t have to look far between the hundreds of local shops offering a plethora of goods in Colorado Springs and beyond.
According to Carrie Simison, the Director of Marketing and Communications for the Downtown Partnership, shopping local isn’t just a way to find something unique to gift, but also a means of making a direct impact on the community.
Simison said for every $100 a person spends at a locally owned shop or restaurant, $70 remains in the community which works to support vital city services such as parks, schools, and roadways. On the contrary, when you shop at a chain store, $60, “immediately leaves the community.”
Additionally, Bank of Colorado is teaming up with the Downtown Partnership for “Shop Local + Win Local,” a new city incentive to inspire the public to do their holiday shopping through local businesses.
“The holiday season is a great time to reconnect with people,” Simpson said. “Through Shop Local + Win Local, Bank of Colorado encourages our residents to show their faces in our independent businesses, engage with the local owners and help support the community we all love to live in, while getting unique, quality gifts.”
For every $50 spent at a local downtown business, patrons can enter into a weekly drawing for a chance to win Downtown gift baskets, valued at $100, or a $150 Downtown Partnership gift card.
If you spend $50 dollars or more downtown, upload a photo of your receipts to the city’s website or email Prize@DowntownCS.com to enter into the drawings. Shop Local + Win Local ends Dec. 10. The top prize of a $1000 dollar Visa gift card will be selected on Dec. 14.
