Mesa Road on COS’s Westside was once a trail used by indigenous Ute people who would race horses down the mesa. Then, in 1871, COS founder General Palmer improved the trails so he could get from his Glen Eyrie castle home into the alcohol-free city he founded without venturing into the den of vice that was Colorado City. Today, the Historic Mesa Road Action Committee is advocating to City Council for historic recognition of the road including markers and education materials to highlight its many stories and landmarks.
