Sept. 13
Manitou Springs Police officers responded to the intersection of El Monte Place and Manitou Avenue after a vehicle was reported to have struck a student. No one was injured.
A building in the 00 block of Ruxton Avenue had been tagged with graffiti between Sept. 11 and 12. The person reporting it provided a possible suspect’s name, and officers are waiting for video footage.
MSPD recovered a stolen vehicle in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue at 1904 hours. The officers investigated possible suspects and gathered evidence, then released the vehicle to the owner. Some suspect information was provided, but no arrest was made.
Sept. 14
At 1233 hours in the 400 block of El Monte Place, an officer served a new court date to a person with a misdemeanor warrant.
MSPD served a local misdemeanor warrant in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue.
Officers responded to a shoplifting incident in the 300 block of Beckers Lane at 1640 hours. They apprehended the suspect and returned the stolen items.
The school resource officer responded to a complaint of bullying at Manitou Springs Elementary School.
A burglary was reported in the 200 block of Beckers Lane. The victim told MSPD that an unknown person entered the unlocked detached garage overnight and stole several items. Officers spoke with neighbors, who all said they hadn’t heard or seen anything. No cameras were located in the area, and there is no suspect information.
Officers responded to the report of a theft in progress in the 700 block of Manitou Avenue. They contacted the suspect and found him with the stolen item. He ran from officers, but was taken into custody. He was served a summons for obstructing police and possession of narcotic equipment before being released.
MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue for an equipment violation. The officers came to suspect the driver was under the influence of drugs and took her into custody. A chemical sample was collected and she was cited.
Officers were advised of a traffic complaint and found a man near his vehicle at West Colorado Avenue and 36th Street. They suspected he was under the influence of alcohol, and had an approximately 2-year-old child in the back seat. A chemical sample was collected and the driver was charged.
Sept. 15
Someone found property and turned it in at the police station. MSPD has attempted to locate the owner and it has been entered into evidence for safekeeping.
Officers recovered a vehicle in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue; it had been stolen in Colorado Springs.
MSPD investigated human trafficking — commercial sex acts in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue.
At 1330 hours, officers recovered property found in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. It is in safekeeping.
MSPD observed a vehicle with expired tags being driven in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue at 1900 hours. The officers pulled over the vehicle and discovered that the tags did not belong to the vehicle. They were seized as evidence.
Sept. 16
Officers responded to a report of unemployment fraud in the 200 block of Mesa Avenue.
Sept. 17
A South Carolina driver’s license was turned in to the MSPD.
MSPD checked the welfare of a person driving in the 1100 block of Manitou Avenue. The person was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
A Parks Department employee found a set of keys in Memorial Park and turned them in to the MSPD.
Officers assisted another agency to recover a stolen vehicle in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue.
MSPD responded to a report of possible criminal mischief in the 800 block of Duclo Avenue. Upon contacting the suspect, officers discovered he had several local misdemeanor warrants and took him into custody. He didn’t damage any property, but was later booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for the warrants.
A resident in the 100 block of Spencer Avenue reported a missing firearm. Officers searched the premises, but didn’t find it. Its information was entered into the Colorado Crime Information Center database.
Sept. 18
At 0044 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle with a stolen license plate near Beckers Lane and Manitou Avenue. Two men were detained and the vehicle was searched. Officers located various drugs (amphetamines, heroin and marijuana) and drug paraphernalia. One man was issued a summons and released.
Officers contacted a man for having an actively burning bonfire at west U.S. Highway 24 and Ridge Road. He also had local felony warrants.
Sept. 19
At 1936 hours, MSPD responded to a stabbing in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. The victim received first aid and was transported to a hospital. The suspect was later found and taken into custody.
COURT UPDATE
According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery, is due to be arraigned Thursday, Oct. 21.
Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled for a pre-trial readiness conference on Wednesday, Sept. 29. His jury trial is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 7.
Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Tuesday, Oct. 12, for her pre-trial conference and Thursday, Dec. 9, for a review hearing. Her husband, Carlos Perez, is scheduled for a pre-trial hearing Tuesday, Oct. 12, and his jury trial is scheduled to start Tuesday, Nov. 30. Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.
Freddie Crespo is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Friday, Dec. 3, in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker in downtown Manitou Springs.
