Aug. 9
At 1400 hours, a Manitou Springs Police officer determined that, during a previous traffic stop, a man lied about his identity. He has been charged.
Aug. 10
Officers stopped a vehicle without headlights near Manitou Avenue and El Monte Place at 0159 hours. They determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol and arrested the person.
MSPD was notified that a defendant with a Manitou Springs warrant was arrested in Fremont County. An officer there served the defendant with a new Manitou court date.
At 1130 hours, officers responded to a loitering report in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. One person had a warrant and was taken to jail.
An officer was dispatched to the report of a vandalized vehicle in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. A metal construction sign had been knocked over and was leaning against the driver’s door. The paint was scratched, but the vehicle was otherwise unharmed.
Aug. 11
Officers responded to an accident in the 200 block of Ruxton Avenue at 0154 hours. Upon arrival, they contacted the driver, who they suspected was under the influence of alcohol and drugs. The suspect was arrested for possession of amphetamines and hallucinogens.
Aug. 12
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue. The driver was found to have multiple local felony warrants, was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.
At 0028 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle displaying expired registration in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon investigating, officers found drugs and paraphernalia throughout the vehicle. The driver was taken into custody and transported to CJC.
Aug. 13
At 0012 hours, officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. They contacted the driver but found no criminal activity, so they released the driver after identifying the person. About 20 minutes later, MSPD learned the vehicle had been stolen in Teller County. Suspect information was provided to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.
While patrolling for illegal campsites in the 100 block of Crystal Park Road, MSPD officers contacted a man who had two local felony warrants. He was transported to CJC and cited for illegally camping within Manitou city limits.
Officers responded to 10 Old Man’s Trail for a criminal trespass — auto.
At 2127 hours, MSPD responded to a traffic accident in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers began to suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol. After an investigation, the driver was taken into custody, issued a summons and released.
Aug. 14
Officers stopped a vehicle in the 3400 block of West Colorado Avenue at 0312 hours. After investigating, they took the driver into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. He was issued a summons and given a courtesy transport home.
Officers patrolling the El Paso Boulevard area observed an illegal transient camp in the 400 block. They contacted a man and a woman, and she was found to have multiple El Paso County felony warrants. She was transported to CJC and was charged with attempting to influence a peace officer.
Officers responded to a hit-and-run accident in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue.
MSPD is investigating damage to a vehicle window that occurred during the night of Aug. 13/Aug. 14 in the 1100 block of Manitou Avenue.
At 2113 hours, officers were dispatched to a disturbance in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. Once on scene, MSPD spoke to multiple people about a fight, although the information given was different from other statements. The people involved were advised to separate; the incident was documented, but no charges were made.
