Child died after consuming fentanyl, coroner says

The 4-year-old found dead in a Manitou Springs hotel in late July died from a fentanyl overdose, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office has announced.

El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from the hotel in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue a little before midnight July 24.

The boy, who has been identified as Jayden Molitor, drank what’s being described as a powdered drink mix.

Jayden’s sister and her friend saw the child “go down,” according to the coroner’s report. The coroner also reported that the amount of fentanyl he consumed would have been lethal for an adult.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death as criminal child abuse/neglect resulting in death.
