Coronavirus derails Emma Crawford Coffin Races for 2021

The “Day of the Dead” team won the Best Coffin Award and fifth place in 2019.

The Manitou Springs Chamber of Commerce has announced that the Emma Crawford Coffin Races will not return in 2021.

With the increasing impact of the Delta variant of COVID-19, the chamber and the city have made the difficult decision to postpone the event’s return until 2022. It also was canceled in 2020.

Festivities honoring the Coffin Races tradition will take place Oct. 30, 2021, and throughout the month in Manitou Springs. The chamber will provide more information on the festivities in the coming weeks on its website, www.manitousprings.org.

Planning has already begun for the 2022 races, scheduled for Oct. 29, 2022. Registration for the 2022 event is open at www.manitousprings.org/emma-crawford-coffin-races.
