Aug. 16
Manitou Springs Police officers responded at 0942 hours to a two-vehicle traffic accident at the U.S. Highway 24/Cave of the Winds Road intersection. No one was injured, but both vehicles were towed. One driver was cited.
At 1450 hours, a Manitou officer responded to a traffic complaint about a vehicle on Highway 24. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver didn’t yield. The driver was identified and an arrest warrant will be issued.
At 1830 hours, MSPD stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue for a minor traffic violation. A check on the driver showed he had local felony warrants, and he was arrested.
Aug. 17
An unemployment fraud was reported in the 800 block of Shoshone Place. The victim was advised about identity-protection steps to take.
At 2150 hours, an officer responded to a theft report in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. A golf cart was stolen; MSPD searched the area but couldn’t locate it. More information will be gathered.
A Manitou officer contacted a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue at 2238 hours. While MSPD was waiting for a fingerprint reader to identify the people, two people began to run away. One man was caught, detained and identified. The other man was later detained and identified. One was transported to a hospital and will be transported to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center for booking.
Aug. 18
At 2023 hours, MSPD responded to a disturbance in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Upon arrival, officers met with the involved parties. One person had local misdemeanor warrants and was arrested.
While patrolling near West Highway 24 and 31st Street, officers realized a nearby vehicle had a stolen license plate. After stopping the vehicle, they discovered it had been reported as stolen. The driver was arrested without incident for aggravated motor vehicle theft.
At 2058 hours, MSPD responded to a welfare check request for a suicidal person in the 00 block of Sheridan Place. After an investigation, a woman was placed on a 72-hour mental health hold and transported by ambulance to a hospital.
Aug. 19
Officers patrolling the Mayfair Avenue/El Paso Boulevard area contacted a man with an out-of-county misdemeanor warrant. He was arrested and booked into CJC.
MSPD received a report of criminal mischief in the 1000 block of Manitou Avenue. A case report was taken and officers searched the area, but were unable to locate the male suspect. Officers issued a summons to be served on him.
While attempting to locate a suspect for a criminal traffic violation, Manitou officers located one of his vehicles parked near El Paso Boulevard and Washington Avenue with fictitious/altered registration. The vehicle was towed and a summons-to-be-served completed.
At 2100 hours, a citizen turned in a purse found near the Garden of the Gods entrance. MSPD has not been able to contact the owner.
Aug. 20
Officers were called to a domestic violence disturbance in a motel in the 200 block of Manitou Avenue. A man and a woman were arguing; the officers separated them. The man had an active arrest warrant and was taken to CJC.
Property found in Soda Springs Park was turned in to the MSPD and it was entered into safekeeping.
At 0447 hours, officers responded to the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue, where someone had attempted suicide by overdose. The woman was treated on scene, then transported to a hospital via ambulance.
A woman in the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard called at 2100 hours, concerned about her safety because someone was sending her threatening text messages. She expressed extreme fear and provided the messages to MSPD. A felony warrant was issued for stalking.
Aug. 21
Manitou officers observed vehicles parked illegally in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue. The road was to be closed and free of any unoccupied vehicles in preparation for the Pikes Peak Ascent. Three vehicles were towed.
MSPD served a warrant in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue.
COURT UPDATE
According to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket, Ashlynne and Carlos Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, are due in court Thursday, Aug. 26. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 7. Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6.
Freddie Crespo is scheduled for conferences on Friday, Aug. 27, and Tuesday, Sept. 7. His trial will begin Tuesday, Sept. 14, in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker in downtown Manitou Springs.
