A “shavee” participates in a previous St. Baldrick’s Foundation event.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation is hosting an event in Manitou Springs to raise funds for childhood cancer research. Participants — known as “shavees” — ask for pledges and offer their heads to be shorn during the event.

It will take place 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at the Townhouse Sports Grill, 907 Manitou Ave.

Anyone who signs up to be a shavee and raises at least $50 will receive a “2022 shavee” St. Baldrick’s Foundation T-shirt, a burger and fries from the Townhouse and a Goat Patch draft beer.

“Chemotherapy is devastating to a young developing body and treatment for children has to be different from traditional methods for adults,” said event organizer Stephen Gaylord, who’s been participating for 10 years.

“These events are fun and it feels great to know that you’re making a difference in so many lives.”

Donated items or gift certificates are needed for a silent auction during the event and are tax-deductible. Call Peter Haxton at 785-380-6345 to make arrangements.
