Give! Nonprofit profile: Energy Resource Center
What
Helping people and the planet, ERC provides free energy efficiency upgrades to income-qualified households. Measures installed include furnaces, insulation, light bulbs, and more. The work saves families money on their utility bills and reduces the carbon footprint of every home served. Each year we save clients $300,000 in utility bills and prevent 3.4 million pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.
Why
Lower-income families often choose between heating their homes in the winter and paying for other life essentials like food or medication. In the Pikes Peak region, we perform energy efficiency upgrades on about 700 homes each year, permanently lowering utility bills by an average of 25%. The work also lowers the carbon footprint of each home by reducing the demand on coal-fired power plants.
Goals
Given the rising costs of food, housing and more due to inflation, our clients are increasingly financially burdened. They must be able to pay their utility bills to ensure a safe and comfortable home. Our goal this year is to increase operating capacity to serve more families in our area.
