Oct. 25

Manitou Springs Police officers served a local misdemeanor warrant in the 400 block of El Paso Boulevard.

Officers responded to a report of reckless endangerment that resulted in a traffic accident in the 500 block of El Paso Boulevard. One suspect ran from the scene and was later contacted. The other person’s vehicle sustained enough damage that it had to be towed from the scene.

Oct. 26

MSPD responded to a criminal trespass in progress at 0707 hours in the 200 block of Via Linda Vista. A man was arrested on warrants.

At 0814 hours, officers responded to a cold criminal trespass (auto) in the 00 block of Manitou Avenue. Suspect information is limited.

MSPD responded to a domestic violence incident at 1009 hours in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. One person had a warrant, and was served and released.

A domestic violence incident was reported in the 100 block of Ruxton Avenue. The victim had an injured hand and believed her boyfriend had sabotaged her. An investigation was conducted, but the suspect has not been located. Potential charges include arson, assault and criminal mischief.

At 1500 hours, officers contacted a man in the 600 block of Manitou Avenue; he was arrested on burglary charges and multiple warrants.

Oct. 27

A domestic violence incident was reported in the 100 block of El Paso Boulevard, and officers arrested a suspect after investigating. The victim had minor injuries and was evaluated by Manitou Springs Fire Department personnel, but was not transported to a hospital. The suspect was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. 

MSPD responded to a traffic accident in a parking lot on Cañon Avenue. The at-fault driver was cited and the accident was documented. No one was injured and the vehicles were still operable.

Manitou officers were patrolling to find a person suspected in ongoing business burglaries. One officer spotted someone matching the suspect’s description around Lover’s Lane and El Paso Boulevard, and followed him to a wooded area. The suspect was able to escape despite MSPD’s extensive efforts to apprehend him.

MSPD responded to a fight between a landlord and a tenant in the 100 block of El Paso Boulevard. After an investigation, the victim wanted to pursue charges; the suspect was cited for simple assault and released.

Oct. 28

MSPD responded to a suspicious incident at a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. Officers contacted two people living in a van and both had active misdemeanor warrants. They were issued new court dates and released on personal recognizance bonds.

MSPD noted a cleared juvenile arrest in the 400 block of El Monte Place.

A vehicle with expired registration tags had not moved for seven days from the roadway near El Paso Boulevard and Lover’s Lane. It was towed and impounded.

Officers responded to the theft of a license plate.

At 1700 hours, MSPD responded to a check-the-welfare request regarding a woman and child walking on U.S. Highway 24 near mile marker 297. The mother was taken into custody for a Florida felony warrant and transported to CJC. The child was returned to the father.

Oct. 29

At 0314 hours, officers investigated a disabled vehicle in a city parking lot on Ruxton Avenue. MSPD had received complaints of it being abandoned nearby and it had been marked for towing. It was impounded.

In the 100 block of Manitou Avenue, officers placed a “gravely disabled” person on a mental health hold.

MSPD contacted a man passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle in the 300 block of Manitou Avenue. He was later arrested for driving under the influence of drugs.

At 2130 hours, officers observed a vehicle with fictitious plates traveling in the area of El Paso Boulevard and Beckers Lane. The driver was detained and served a summons with a court date.

Oct. 30

A wallet found in the 300 block of Cañon Avenue was turned in. Officers are attempting to contact the owner.

Found keys were left in the police department lobby with no information about ownership. They are in safekeeping.

Oct. 31

Property found in the 900 block of Manitou Avenue was turned in.

Officers responded to the report of an attempt to locate a wanted party at 7 Minute Spring Park on El Paso Boulevard. They contacted a man who was found to have multiple misdemeanor warrants. He was transported to CJC.

A cold hit-and-run accident was reported at a business in the 100 block of Manitou Avenue. MSPD attempted to locate the suspect, but were unable to.

At 2245 hours, officers responded to a check-the-welfare request in the 700 block of Midland Avenue. Upon arrival, they contacted a person who appeared to be heavily intoxicated and was unable to provide a full report of what had occurred. The person asked to be transported to a nearby medical facility.

COURT UPDATE

Pawel Jakubczyk is due in El Paso County Court for a review hearing on Friday, Nov. 12, according to the Colorado Judicial Branch’s online docket. He was the owner/operator of PJ’s Stagecoach Inn, 702 Manitou Ave., now known as Manitou Eatery.

Landon Johnston, who is accused of vandalizing Crystal Valley Cemetery in May, is due to be arraigned Thursday, Dec. 2.

The jury trial for Jacob Carley, the Manitou police officer accused of sending revenge porn, is scheduled to begin Friday, Nov. 5.

Ashlynne Perez, charged with criminally negligent child abuse resulting in death, is due in court Thursday, Dec. 9, for a review hearing and Tuesday, Dec. 21, for a pre-trial conference.

Her husband, Carlos Perez, is due in court Tuesday, Nov. 30, as his trial begins. Their 4-year-old son accidentally shot himself in the head July 6 outside a Manitou business.

Freddie Crespo is scheduled for a sentencing hearing on Friday, Dec. 3, in the May 2019 death of Jimmie Baker in downtown Manitou Springs.
